Introduction

The world above so cold and restless. For years I've sat and pondered what it would be like to roam on the surface, but such thoughts were declared insane. I've grown up in the dark.
Even though the elders tried to hide it, you could see the fear in their eyes when we asked about the surface. You could even smell their fear radiating off of their old bones. Their faces battered by time and wisdom. Yet their eyes were all the same, scared.
Fear. Such a common word to be heard down here. Why must the young be taught fear when we know not of what we are suppose to fear.
Fear. Heh. Such a stupid word.
